Earth Day
Today marks the 56th annual Earth Day - a chance for us to come together to prioritise environmental change for the better. This year’s theme is ‘Invest In Our Planet’, and gives rise to a global focus on adopting a greener economy.
Though many big companies are now engaged in bettering their sustainable practises, small businesses are still proudly spearheading the shift when it comes to being kind to the earth.
In 2021 we made the decision to directly combat climate change with reforestation via the Treeapp organisation, donating a pound per online order to one of their many worldwide projects.
In aid of Earth Day, today we’ll be scaling up to donate 10% of every order to Treeapp - which equates to £1 for every £10. You can find out more about our contribution in our online Journal.
Earth Day Alternatives
At Nadinoo we’re keenly aware that slow fashion is inextricably linked with sustainability.
Within our Slow Living shop you’ll find a selection of offerings from eco-friendly brands based in the UK, featuring beautiful hand-picked items that are ethically made and benefit our planet.
We’ve put together some carefully curated goods to help you transition to using more sustainable items. Again, we circle back to Earth Day 2022’s aim to ‘invest’. Swapping to considered, eco-friendly alternatives that you can use again and again not only means you’ll spend less in the long term, but support small makers whilst lessening your ecological footprint.
We invite you to pause and take a look, considering how we can better our impact on the world this Earth Day.
Tabitha Eve’s Reusable Make Up Rounds are a great alternative to traditional disposable cotton pads, and contain naturally antibacterial bamboo. When used, simply wash as usual - we recommend Goldrick’s bamboo Laundry Peg Airer for quick drying.
Made from bamboo and organic cotton, Goldrick’s 100% biodegradable cotton buds are just as durable and effective as their plastic counterpart without having a negative impact on marine life. This product and its packaging are completely plastic-free.
After they’ve served their purpose, plastic toothbrushes can take up to 1,000 years to decompose - compared to a meagre 3-4 months for a bamboo toothbrush. Goldrick combines sustainability and minimalist design to produce a natural alternative for brushing with a box of 4.
Wild Sage + Co’s Organic Broccoli Seed Hair Conditioner is a plastic-free detangler to compliment your shampoo bar, scented with lavender and rose geranium. Broccoli Seed Oil tames frizz effectively, working as a natural switch for silicones - and a little goes a long way.
Handmade from cotton and natural rubber, Tabitha Eve’s Plastic Free Hair Ties are a zero-waste option thoughtfully made to last. In neutral ecru and subtle charcoal, they provide a responsible replacement for damaging plastic bobbles.
The Green series by Jen Chillingsworth - a triad of little books on how to live, clean, and grow green - are a great introduction to switching to a healthier and less harmful lifestyle. Jen provides simple, inexpensive, and eco-friendly methods for a naturally sustainable home.
